FRP ships, which have been the cause of
some environmental problems,
have been regulated by the Korean government. Instead the government is buying more aluminum based ships.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is planning on converting government vessels such as fishing guidance ships and patrol boats into
eco-friendly ships by 2024, taking into account the lifespan and age of the ships. Furthermore they are planning on replacing about 140 light-duty ships with eco–friendly ships by 2030
